Learning to Rest
Learning to Rest: Embracing the Wisdom of Cycles
Learning to rest and listen to my body has been one of the hardest lessons I’ve had to face. Living with ME/CFS forced me to see that my old ways—pushing myself to full capacity and then crashing—were no longer sustainable. It’s been a steep learning curve. Sound familiar? If you’ve ever run on adrenaline or sheer willpower only to hit a wall, you’re not alone.
I hope you find it within yourself to care gently and offer the grace it takes to simply be. We live in a world that expects constant output, but no one can be ‘on’ all the time—and the truth is, we weren’t built for it. Even nature shows us the beauty of rest, with its seasons of bloom, dormancy, and quiet renewal.
Maybe you’ve also noticed that real rest isn’t just the absence of work. It’s an intentional act—listening to what your body, mind, and spirit need in the moment. Rest can take many forms: lying down in the quiet, saying ‘no’ to obligations that drain you, or finding joy in small, soothing rituals. What does rest look like for you right now?
No matter where you are in your journey, know this: Rest isn’t a reward. It’s a right. And it’s part of the cycle that makes growth possible.
How can you create space for meaningful rest today?
Let me know what’s been working (or not) for you—I’d love to hear about your journey. And if this resonates, consider sharing it with someone else who might need the reminder. We’re in this together.
Take good care, Kuhla
